  • Total cost of basic facilities is approximately US $1,000 (Rs.50,000) per family or $200 (Rs.10,000) per person.

  • VLIP suggests the total cost of US $1,000 (Rs.50,000) per household for small village , be shared as follows:

  • Total cost 200 households = $200,000 (Rs.1 Crore)

    • 75% to be contributed by the Government of Punjab = $150,000 (Rs.75 lacs)

    • Benchmark villagers and NRIs

      • Atleast 80% of households contributing Rs.5,000 or more. (160 x 5000 = Rs.8,00,000 (US $16,000)

      • 2 NRI households contributing Rs.100,000 or more (Rs.100,000 x 2 = Rs.2,00,000 (US $4,000)

      • Total Village Contribution = Rs.8,00,000 (US $ 16.000) + Rs.2,00,000 (US $4,000)

                = Rs.10 lac (US $ 20,000)

Punjab

  • Gap to develop 1 village = Rs.15 lac (US $ 30,000)

  • Gap to develop 5 villages = Rs.75 lac (US $ 150,000)

  • Gap to develop one village in each of the 20 districts of Punjab = Rs. 300 lacs (US $ 600,000)

  • Gap for 100 villages : Rs.1500lac (US $ 3.0 million)

  • This amounts to one time assistance / intervention of less than US $50 per capita

India

  • Total Cost = 700 million x Rs.10,000= Rs.700,000 Crores

    for 35 years = 20,000 Crores per year

    Government Contribution - 75% (Rs.15,000 Crores) per year

    Villagers/Public Contribution- 25% (Rs.5,000 Crores) per year
