 Background
The Soul of India Lives in its Villages - Mahatma Gandhi
  • 70% of India's Population (more than 700 million people) live in villages.

  • Little or no infrastructure for providing safe water, promoting sanitation, and managing human waste.

    • Approximate 21% of communicable diseases in India are related to unsafe water.

    • Drinking water contaminated by human waste causes an estimated 78% of diseases.

    • Such water borne diseases or malaria, dengu fever, hepatitis widely prevalent.

    • Diarrhea alone causes more than 1,600 deaths each day, especially among children.

  • Present public health facilities are overwhelmed by these preventable waterborne diseases.

 Making a Start
  • We begin with provision of basic necessities for living - Key components - Basic Facilities Package -

    • Water (for sustaning life) - Availablity of clean drinking water is basic need.

    • Sanitation (for health life) - Underground sewage, Waste Management, Paved Streets, Village park instead of polluted pond.

    • Appropriate Education (for productive life) - Hygiene, Computer Literacy (Where there is an education gap, technology is a vehicle to bridge that gop.

    • Clean Environment (for enhanced life) - Solar Lights/ Wind Energy, Bio-Gas Management

 Our Mission

The benefits of traditional "trickle down" approach to economic development takes a long time to reach the rural masses and in its wake produces a widening income gap between the rich and the poor.  Hence, the outflow of people from the countryside to the cities.  To check this outflow of people and stem the increasing income disparities, we are starting a parallel "bottom up" process of development, beginning with providing basic civic amenities of water, sanitation and computer education to rural folks. Villagelife is working, therefore, for the betterment of rural lives; village by village.

 Our objectives

1. Water and Sanitation
  • Each household will be equipped with a fresh running water connection.

  • Each household will be equipped with an underground sewage connection feeding into a sewage treatment plant.

  • Streets will be paved to eliminate unsanitary puddles.

2. Computers in schools

One computer will be given to each grade/class room with a teacher. Computer literacy is the least expensive way to bring rural children into the 21 st century.

3. Job Creation

With the infrastructure facilities being established, we will be fulfilling basic physical needs of the people. Some Jobs will be created along with an environment for starting small scale enterprises.

 Our Strategy

Villagelife wishes to help those villages which want to help themselves. If the village folks are not committed to their own improvements, no one else can do the improvements for them. Villagelife aims to catalyse those villagers, including NRIs, who want to improve their villages to join hands with each other in conjunction with their NRI brethren and take the lead in the betterment of lives in their own villages.
